1940 Calories shows half a heart and half a stomach made out of glass. I chose glass to show the fragility of the human body. The two halves are connected by small glass tubes, which are filled with 1940 grains of rice. Each one numbered with a black marker. 1940 calories is the average daily recommended calorie intake for women. Calorie counting, dieting, worrying about weight and looks is so much part of the lives of so many women. With this piece I hope to draw more attention to this issue within our society.
